Automotive Design Manager £60K & Benefits

An Automotive Tier 1 aftermarket manufacturer of Thermal Management Systems and Thermostats is recruiting an experienced Design Manager with an understanding of NPI, CFD and Powertrain cooling systems. The ideal candidate will be experienced in using Catia and Teamcentre successfully as well as being able to manage a team of Design Engineers.

Commutable From:Abingdon, Basingstoke, Bracknell, High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Newbury, Reading. Or a generous relocation package is available for this role.

 The Role

 Forming part of the Senior Management Team the role includes the day to day management of a team of Design and Development Engineers to produce a range of concept design schemes for new products as well as updating existing product designs. You will lead the team to create a range of 3D models for a number of proposal /production and development components by using CAD packages such as Catia.V5. You will also have overall responsibility for the management of all Design activities including RFQs, Design freeze / release, DFMEA, PPAP, DV & PV testing and CAE.

You will also be required to manage the development of engine thermostat and transmission oil cooler designs from concept to start of production and through to PPAP submission for a number of automotive customers such as Daimler, Bentley, JLR, and Ford.

The role calls for you to be able to present design, costs, changes and budgetary information effectively to customers and senior board members as well as the need to support sites throughout France, Germany, India and China

 The Person

 The ideal candidate will be an experienced Design Manger or a talented Senior Design Engineer who has held a strategic position within a successful automotive aftermarket tier 1 business and is now looking for advancement within their career.

 Educated to Degree level or equivalent ideally within an engineering discipline you will be naturally be driven by success and have acquired a broad range of knowledge and experience by working within an Automotive manufacturing environment. With a keen interest in the automotive powertrain aftermarket you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of Fluid Dynamics, Powertrain including Flow Rates and Pressure Drops as well as experience of working in both 2D & 3D CAD particularly using Catia V5 and Teamcentre.

 The successful candidate will be process driven, resilient and influential CAD Engineer capable of demonstrating a strong background within the Automotive sector, as well as having worked in a fast moving injection moulding environment with previous experience of DFMEA, FMEA, CFD, APQP and Six Sigma. Experience of successfully managing a design team, delivering New Product Introduction and reworking design changes and upgrades through to production is essential.
