Summers can get harsh and weather can turn really hot leaving house
mates having to bear scorching heat. Cooling solutions are need of almost all
homes that are located in areas that get hot and humid when the mercury goes
up. There are however several means by which houses can be cooled down to a
more comfortable level. Where window air conditioners are widely used as room
chillers, they are quiet expensive in usage as compared to some other air
cooler alternatives that are to follow.
Single Whole House Fan:
A whole house fan is a very efficient means for cooling a house and
a very simple mechanism it follows too. It uses a single fan unit and uses just
10% power as compared to that used by an air conditioning unit. Its working is
very simple, it rotates in a manner that it sucks air from the house that is
supposed to be hotter than that present on the outside. The sucked air gets
ventilated through the attic openings or special ventilators on the upper
portion of the house.
The vacuum produced
as a result causes air from outside to rush inwards through open windows and
doors causing a circulation of fresh air through the house. One can leave their
whole house fan on and then forget about it as it is very cheap to operate.
However, in case the temperature on the outside is hotter than the inside,
these fans lose their practicality and are of no use at all.
In case there is
humidity, these fans fail to dehumidify the house since they cannot flush out
moisture but only dry air. They can suck in a lot of dust and pollen grains
that can cause breathing problems. Based on their sizes, these fans can cost as
little as $200 and as much as $1200 but are very easy and inexpensive to
install. Their maintenance cost is also next to nothing.
Movable Air Coolers and
Conditioners:
Movable air conditioners are more expensive versions of the air
conditioning units that are usually used. Just like them, they lot awful lot of
power and that shows up tremendously on the bills. They are however very easy
to shift from one room to another and can cool a room down seriously. They can
either be very small and thus can cost as little as $300 or can be as quick to
chill and big to cost $1500, but they are worth the money only if bought from
an efficient brand.
Ventilator Fan:
These are hidden units of air cooler system that operates covertly and silently through the walls or through
the floor of the house. These cannot operate alone and require at least one
room to be cooled down by Mother Nature or by artificial means like air
conditioners and the like. Once that is done, these fans can take cool air from
one room in the house to another by passing it through ducts and vents running
through the walls and floors of the house.
The more powerful these fans are the
better chances they have to convey cooling of one room to another. Another good
thing about these is that they run both ways, anti clockwise and clockwise so
as to take the cool air up or down the house as required. The disadvantage
however is a big one as it needs holes cut out in the wall for its installation
in the older house. Newer ones however are designed such so as to accommodate
such an item. The cost of the product added with its installation from level to
level is about $200 per level.
